Scholarship Update
The Education Committee of the Indiana Athletic Trainers' Association (IATA) will award a total of three $1000 scholarships to deserving undergraduate and graduate athletic training students who are IATA members. Typically, two scholarships are awarded to undergraduate athletic training students, and one scholarship is awarded to a certified athletic trainer pursuing a graduate degree.
Application Deadline is October 1
Applicants for the scholarship MUST:
Have a 3.0/4.0 (or equivalent) cumulative grade point average at the time of application. Graduate students please provide undergraduate grade point average;
Have been an IATA member since January of the same year as the application;
If you are a NATA member, you are also an IATA member if your address is Indiana.
Please provide documentation of NATA membership.
If you are an IATA member only, please provide documentation that you are an IATA member since January of the same year as the application.
Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at an Indiana College or University. An undergraduate student must be enrolled in a CAATE accredited athletic training education program;
At the time of the application, be of junior or senior standing to be eligible for the undergraduate award. For the graduate award, applicants must be currently enrolled in at least 6 credit hours of a graduate program;
If applying for the undergraduate application, must be an athletic training student at the current institution for at least one academic year.

3. Current Transcript (Graduate applicants provide undergraduate and graduate transcript)
4. Copy of NATA Membership Card or official documentation of NATA membership or IATA membership
Application Procedure
1. The applicant must complete the application form and return via e-mail (clauber@uindy.edu) by October 1 to Christine Lauber, Chair, IATA Scholarship Committee.
2. Undergraduate applicants must be sponsored by a full-time member of the Athletic Training Education Program Faculty or by a full-time member of the Athletic Training Staff. Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainers may not be a sponsor.
3. Graduate applicants who are affiliated with an Athletic Training Education Program or an athletics department must be sponsored by a full-time member of the Athletic Training Education Program Faculty or by a full-time member of the Athletic Training Staff. Graduate applicants who are not affiliated with an Athletic Training Education Program or an athletics department must be sponsored by a certified athletic trainer.
4. The candidate must have two completed Scholarship Application Recommendation Forms (one from the applicant sponsor and one from another individual - see a and b below). The candidate must have at least one recommendation addressing academics and at least one recommendation addressing clinical education. A recommender can address both academics and clinical education.
a. The applicant sponsor must complete the Scholarship Application Recommendation Form (found on the IATA website - www.iata-usa.org). The sponsor must complete the Scholarship Application Recommendation Form and return via e-mail (clauber@uindy.edu) by October 1 to Christine Lauber, Chair, IATA Scholarship Committee.
b. In addition to the applicant sponsor, the applicant must have another Scholarship Application Recommendation Form completed by one of the following: a teaching faculty member at the applicant's institution (inside or outside of the athletic training education program), a member of the athletic training staff at the institution, or by an off-campus clinical instructor. This individual must complete the Scholarship Application Recommendation Form (found on the IATA website - www.iata-usa.org). This individual must complete the Scholarship Application Recommendation Form and return it via e-mail (clauber@uindy.edu) by October 1 to Christine Lauber, Chair, IATA Scholarship Committee.
5. The applicant must mail or fax a current transcript by October 1 to Christine Lauber, Chair, IATA Scholarship Committee (see address below).
6. The applicant must mail of fax a copy of a current NATA membership card or official documentation of NATA membership or IATA membership to:

Grant Opportunities
The Indiana Athletic Trainers' Association has Grant opportunities to encourage and promote study in the field of Athletic Training in the state of Indiana. Any certified athletic trainer who is an IATA member and is employed or is attending graduate school within the state of Indiana is eligible to apply.

StarTracks Scholarship Opportunities
Program: The StarTRACKS program is designed for individuals interested in the study of leadership. The curriculum developed is vigorous and is expected to take up to two years to complete. The program requires a combination of reading, online research, workshops, and community experience such as Toastmasters. For specific details on the curriculum contact Judy Pulice at jpulice@nata.org.
The GLATA is sponsoring two (2) Leadership Scholars in 2009-2011. Upon completion of the course of study, Leadership Scholars will be awarded a Certificate of Leadership. As a sponsored Leadership Scholar, the selected members become official participants of the program.
Eligibility Requirements: Sponsored Leadership Scholars must:
- Be a Certified Member of the IATA for the entire matriculation in the StarTRACKS program.
Leadership Scholar Responsibilities: Sponsored Leadership Scholars must agree:
- To seek and attain a leadership position in State Association AND
- present a topic on Leadership at the IATA Fall Business Meeting and Symposium.
- Leadership Scholars will be reimbursed for the IATA presentation according to Annual Fall Meeting and Symposium guidelines.
- Leadership Scholars will cover all expenses associated with their activities outside the StarTRACKS fees (travel, housing, meals, Toastmaster’s dues, etc)
Application Instructions:
- All sections of the application packet must be fully completed and signed as directed.

- Section 1 General Information (to be completed and signed and dated by the applicant)
- Section 2 Applicant Essay (to be written and signed and dated by the applicant).
- A current resume must be included in the application packet.
- All information in the application packet (other than signatures) must be typed. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
- A fully completed application packet must be mailed or emailed to Craig Voll LAT, ATC; IATA President; 900 N. University Street, B-63; West Lafayette, IN 47907 or cavoll@purdue.edu
- All applications must be received by April 15, 2010.
Selection Process:
- Consideration will be given to applicants with record of being an “emerging” leader. Emerging leader is defined as those whose ‘association career’ is just getting started.
- Consideration will be given to applicants that have bright futures in the profession of athletic training.
- Consideration will be given to applicants that are naturally curious, willing to learn, and have a passion for the profession.
- Consideration will be given to applicants that are adaptable and exercise initiative, are able to set priorities, and effectively manage resources.
